The Tribal Economic Leadership (TEL) Program is an executive education program providing professional development training opportunities for tribal leaders, tribal government professional staff, tribal members, tribal students, and governments to support the long-term economic sustainability of tribal nations and governments presented by Arizona State University’s (ASU) American Indian Policy Institute (AIPI). 


Our vision is to expand the capacity of Indian Country economic development and growth by offering nationally recognized and accredited educational and professional development training for Tribes, Tribal members, and those entities and individuals working with tribal governments.

Tribal Financial Management

Tribal Financial Managers Certificate (TFMC) Training for Practitioners-Our signature training is TFMC and is for practitioners. Since 2009 AIPI and NAFOA have offered this In-depth training on federal grant management, indirect cost rates, and financial reporting in a tribal setting. We offer the ONLY OFFICIAL NAFOA training on the brand new Financial Reporting and Information Guide for Tribal Governments and Enterprises (Orange Book), which is published and co-written by NAFOA.

Tribal Business Development

Entrepreneurial Training via our newly revised award-winning First Innovations curriculum is offered in both an academic classroom setting and in community-based setting at our Tribal Business Collision Community-Inno-NATIONS.

Tribal Economic Development Planning

Consulting: Tribal economic development consulting is offered at the request of Tribal Nations. We are actively working with area tribes offering ASU expertise.

We work with other ASU programs to leverage our expertise, including the Thunderbird School of Global Management, the Indian Legal Program, the ASU School of Public Programs, Seidman Research Institute, and the Decision Theatre Network.
